Why should you hire a professional for your boudoir portraits?

Let's be real.  Boudoir portraits are different than any other type of photography.  Why? Because they show you in a intimate and private way.  When looking for someone to photograph you in such an intimate way you want to look for someone with experience and someone that you can trust.  

This is not the time to be searching Craigslist for a photographer.  You want to know that the person you are working with is real, trustworthy and has a good reputation.  Another reason that you want to hire a boudoir specialist is for their experience.  A professional will know posing and lighting that will compliment all body types.  They can advise you on what outfits to wear and how to accentuate your favorite features.  They will also be able to help calm your nerves, feel relaxed and know how to coach and direct you to get the best angles. You want to work with someone who can put you at ease.

Some questions you need to ask yourself before booking your session:

1) Style of work?  Look at the prospective photographers work to make sure you like their style.  While Pinterest is great for inspiration the photographer you choose has their own style and if it is different that the look you are drawn to you want to keep looking to find someone that can give you the look and feel you want.  

2) Male vs Female photographer?  Does it matter to you?  There are many talented photographers and there is no right or wrong answer here, the only thing that matters is your comfort.  Here at Monica Grimes Portrait Design we are an all female staff.  We all believe in uplifting and empowering women to see how beautiful they are.  

3) Location?  Where will your session take place?  Some photographers work out of their homes, others rent out hotels or airbnb's and others have retail studio space.  Again I don't think there is a right or wrong you just should be aware so you can make an informed decision.  We have a dedicated boudoir studio where we provide professional hair and makeup and have multiple sets to provide a variety of looks.  

4) What will you wear?  What to wear is one of the most frequently asked questions we get.  We will do a pre-session consultation to discuss options and looks based on what you want out of your session.  We also have a style closet with a variety of different types of outfits so you don't feel as if you have to buy things that you many never wear again.  We also have heels and jewelry that you are welcome to use!
